Heating and Air Conditioning Problems Solved

An HVAC system is just that, a system. If your estimator comes in and asks you the square footage of your house and then tells you what size unit you need based on that alone, throw them out!  A lot of "old school" contractors just use an old rule of thumb, "500 square ft. per ton." In decades past, they could get away with this, but not anymore. A system (consisting of the cooling and heating unit, the ductwork and the controls) must all be sized correctly for optimal use, efficiency and comfort.  If anyone comes to your house about your heating and air conditioning and uses "rule of thumb" escort them to the door immediately as they are wasting both your time and potentially your money.  Modern houses can vary all the way up to 2000 square ft. per ton (very energy efficient homes) and some older homes can need a much larger unit (400 SF per ton and even 300 SF per ton).  Air flow is very important. You do NOT want a home that has a significant temperature difference in different rooms. Cold at one end of the house and warm at the other. This is the sign of a poorly designed system whether it is for cooling or heating.  Here is a simple but true fact: Most existing homes have both improperly sized equipment and ducting! Industry estimates have been as high as 80% of existing homes having this problem.  If an estimator comes in and simply wants to change out your unit for one of the same exact size etc., without doing some measurements and testing, they are not professionals. They just want a quick and easy sale.  A true professional will do what is called a Manual J load calculation that will tell them exactly what size equipment you need, both for heating and cooling and the correct amount of air volume and movement you need for maximum comfort.  An improperly sized system can have many problems, including:      Uneven temperatures throughout the house.      Noisy ducts.      "Whistling" or other noise coming from the registers.      Not enough air coming out of registers.      Too much air coming out of registers.      Unit cycling on and off too often.      Damage to units such as compressor failure or furnace shut downs.      Poor filter performance.      Duct leakage which will cost you money by "wasting" heat or cool air.      Increased maintenance costs.      A shorter life span for the furnace or air conditioner.      Increased pollution of the homes interior.      "Mystery" malfunctions and needed repairs.      Higher cost of operation than necessary.      Dirty, dusty, ducts and registers.      Uncomfortable areas of the house.  And even more problems can arise. When Jacob or another representative from Stockton Enterprises shows up at your house, you will know you are getting a professional that takes pride in their work and will tell you honestly and up front what you really need and why. Not just guesswork, not just in and out with no explanations.  And they will explain to you why you need what you do, not simply hand you a quick estimate. Your questions and concerns will be answered honestly and in easy to understand terminology.  Because...
